MNow that you have finished reading Two Years Before the Mast, how do you think Richard Henry Dana felt after he arrived in Boston Harbor? Do you think he would sign up to go again? Why or why not? What do you think he learned about himself after spending two years away from home?

What would you do? Put yourself in the Rosens’ place. What would you do if you had to suddenly leave the country? What would you want to take with you? ( Remember that they could only take very small items withe them, such as a locket, a small picture, or perhaps a small book.)

What about your family? Would your parents choose something different from what you would consider valuable? Interview one of your parents and record their responses to the same question. Also, what would they be most upset about leaving behind.
